| The state of hypnosis is a totally natural phenomenon. It is most pleasant and particularly relaxing and everybody has the ability to enter this state. Every day people slip into natural states resembling the hypnotic state when they become absorbed in watching television, reading a book, using computers, or even driving. A person in hypnosis (often referred to as 'conscious hypnosis') is not asleep, despite the word sleep often portrayed being used by many hypnotists, especially in popular entertainment and films. People under hypnosis are often more aware of what is taking place than usual, and their senses function more efficiently than normal. It is quite easy for a person in hypnosis to talk and move. Contrary to the popular portrayal of hypnosis, there is absolutely no question of being controlled or manipulated. A person in hypnosis is not able to be made to do anything that he or she did not want to do. Everything done or said by a person in hypnosis is done completely voluntarily. Indeed, even entering the state of hypnosis is itself only possible as a voluntary action, and except for those with severe cognitive impairment, psychotic illness, and very young children everybody can enter the hypnotic state.
I welcome enquiries about hypnotherapy from people in all walks of life. I have clients from around Carlisle where I am based, and the surrounding area.
How does it happen? I will lead you into the state of hypnosis by using visualisations and suggestion, there is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling, so you are unlikely to feel hypnotised as such, but you will probably experience a feeling of mental and physical relaxation. Your memory may well be enhanced. You will find me to be a caring, professional person totally devoid of any mystical or magical powers - just a reassuring manner to put you at ease, and the expertise to help you with your problem. Hypnotherapy can be divided into the following two groups. Suggestion Therapy As the name implies this is a straightforward method used to control such things as smoking, nail-biting, some weight control problems, confidence boosting, public speaking, etc., and requires between 1 and 4 sessions. Analytical Therapy There is no reason why you should have to put up with something 'within' yourself but 'out of your own control'. Emotional and psychological problems respond very well to this method of treatment. The universe operates on the doctrine of cause and effect. You cannot have an effect without a cause, and thus your particular problem must have a cause. Analysis is based of this same law, cause and effect. The object of analysis is to search for and remove the cause, thus relieving your symptom completely and forever! Having revealed the cause, and thus removing it, a permanent and lasting relief of your symptom is achieved and you as a client will be brought to a moment of surprising and liberating enlightenment. Surprising because you didnt know that was inside! Liberating it frees you of your symptom! Enlightenment as you now understand the reason for your symptom. You shouldn't have to put up with something 'inside yourself but outside your own control', provided that you are prepared to devote time, money, effort, and self discipline to be free of your problem. The use of hypnosis dramatically 'speeds - up' analysis, and similar results can be achieved in a few weeks as would be expected from a more conventional '1000 hour' analysis. One can be fairly confident that a release of the cause will be obtained within six to eight weekly one-hour sessions. It is of course possible to mix the two types of therapy to meet the individual needs of each client's particular problem. Here are just some of the many conditions that can be treated successfully, using analysis: anxiety attacks; depression; stress; nightmares; phobias; weight management; substance misuse; IBS; sexual problems. Just because your particular problem is not listed doesnt mean I can't help, I possibly can. Who can benefit from Hypnotherapy and Hypno-Analysis? Almost everyone! Whether you merely need a little help to break a habit, or rid yourself of an acute anxiety or emotional problem, hypnosis is a totally natural and perfectly safe method of treatment. Unlike some drugs and tranquillisers, it has no unpleasant side-effects and is therefore able to help with an extremely wide range of conditions. Please Note: The differences between the personalities of both therapist and client makes it impossible to be totally accurate regarding the number of sessions necessary.
